Message and Resource Management proven to increase productivity

When your iSeries sends a message, who is there to see it? When a resource becomes unavailable, how long does it take before anyone notices? When someone changes a security value or makes an FTP request, is there a way to check who did it? Yes, the operator on duty should be monitoring everything, but he or she has other duties as well. Messages are missed, servers are down, FTP requests go unmonitored.

To make the most of your iSeries, don’t make it wait for an operator’s help. To make the most of your operators, don’t tie them to the console. You need an intelligent, untiring assistant who sorts through incoming messages and monitors resources and system logs—and notifies a human only when it can’t handle a situation. An intelligent, untiring assistant for a fraction of an operator’s salary.

Robot/CONSOLE is that assistant.

You tell Robot/CONSOLE how to handle each type of message and it does it automatically. You can:

• Filter out messages you do not need to see except in particular circumstances.

• Ensure structured escalation of critical messages.

• Respond based on surrounding events according to business service levels.

• Ensure the procedures are followed and only by authorised staff.

• Reduce manual workload across logical partitions and remote systems.

And, as you work with Robot/CONSOLE, it becomes more experienced and can handle more and more of your messages automatically saving you time.

The Robot/CONSOLE Explorer point-and-click interface lets you set up your message management environment and manage resources, as well as the system logs for system history, security audit, and FTP requests.

The Robot/CONSOLE Explorer also provides powerful message data manipulation capabilities. Data filters allow you to display exactly the information you need. You can use the filters shipped with Robot/CONSOLE, or create your own specialised filters. Using XML files you can export and import Robot/CONSOLE objects (such as message sets, message centers, message queue monitors, etc.), to another system or partition to reproduce your message monitoring environment.

Robot/CONSOLE—Monitors iSeries Resources Proactively

Robot/CONSOLE monitors your resources so you never need to worry that you’ll be caught off-guard if a critical line, device, server, job, subsystem—and more—becomes unavailable. It checks the status of defined resources, allowing Robot/CONSOLE to take immediate action if it finds a problem. Robot/CONSOLE then uses all its powerful automation capabilities to react to the situation, either by executing a procedure or sending a message to an expert. You’ll never again have to check resources manually or write your own program to perform a check.

Robot/CONSOLE—Monitors System Logs Effortlessly

Robot/CONSOLE monitors system logs to help you manage FTP requests, the security audit journal and the system history log (QHST). By actively monitoring these system logs, you can see at a glance who executed an FTP transaction, who modified a system value, or the number of objects that were not saved in the most recent backup. A logged event can trigger Robot/CONSOLE automation to handle the event.

Robot/CONSOLE—Your Untiring Assistant

Robot/CONSOLE does not let you miss an important message. It makes sure you see the messages you need to see right away. If you’re not available, Robot/CONSOLE sends the message to someone else. If that person isn’t available, it passes on the message until it finds someone to respond. Use Robot/ALERT and you need never miss an iSeries event wherever you are.

Intelligent Automation - OPAL

Use the real muscle in Robot/CONSOLE, OPerator Assistance Language (OPAL), to create message processing procedures. OPAL can check the contents of message variables and decide the actions to take. It can execute commands, call programs, cancel the job, or call an expert for help. OPAL is so powerful, most message processing procedures take only a few lines of code.

It Keeps Great Records

Robot/CONSOLE keeps a detailed message and reply history for your analysis. It prints both summary and detailed reports, and a one-page Good Morning report summarizes all the messages handled during the shift.

Product Integration for Complete Control

Connect the Robot/CONSOLEs on your iSeries machines with Robot/NETWORK, the network management package and control message management for all your iSeries systems from one console.

Connect your Robot/SCHEDULE job schedule to your iSeries messages.

Robot/CONSOLE can initiate Robot/SCHEDULE jobs or change job schedules when a message arrives. It can even change the parameter values used by the job based on the contents of message variables.

And for Enterprise Message Managment, check out Robot/TRAPPER. Robot/TRAPPER receives SNMP notifications (traps) from network devices, converts them into iSeries messages you can work with in Robot/CONSOLE, and checks the status of your network devices and applications at preset intervals.
