Easy View Increase
programmer productivity
Easy View is designed to increase productivity
on iSeries machines for anyone who debugs programs that change database files.
Easy View reduces the programmer's need for DFUs and queries to view or change
the contents of database files, and presents files and records in easy-to-read
and easy-to-use formats.
Display file information
quickly and easily
You can use Easy View to display every type of data file, including keyed and
arrival sequence files, logical files built over one or more physical files
(including join files), source files, and DDM files to display databases on
remote systems.
Easy View formats hexadecimal record printouts
to make them easy to read without additional programming. Easy View handles
packed fields and hexadecimal conversions. Each field can have a heading
identifying it; numeric fields are unpacked and edited. Any fields that do not
convert correctly are flagged so you can locate possible decimal errors. And,
you can customize your entry screen by picking only the fields you want to see.
It's irritating when fields you want to see are
100 positions apart and you have to window back and forth to see them. Easy
View lets you select the fields you want to work with and displays them next to
each other in the order you selected. You can store and reuse your
combinations.
Easy View offers several ways to change how
data is presented on the record display and you can switch between these views
without leaving Easy View. You can choose from nine display formats. In
addition, Easy View offers the following display features:
- You can use user-defined fields to split or
concatenate fields on the display
- You can use data models to choose which
fields are displayed in what order
- You can define result cells to display the
results of arithmetic operations on numeric fields in the record
Find and fix problems
fast
Easy View 7.0 offers a feature called Easy View Journal. You can use this
feature and its powerful EZJOURNAL command (EZJRN) to create specific views of
journal entries and reuse them to view and edit journal entries. It's a great
investigative tool for hard-to-find update bugs. It also can be useful for
recovering from a power or hardware failure you can inspect journal entries
quickly to determine where an application halted.
Easy View makes it easy to correct database
files by adding new records, printing or changing existing records, and
deleting records. You can even use Easy View to fix decimal data errors. You
can display the record being changed horizontally (for entering characters or
hexadecimal codes), or vertically with each field value on a separate, labeled
line.
Within files, Easy View helps you find specific
records to change. You can add, delete, and print records. And, you can use its
Replicate option to create new records quickly. Easy View makes it easy to
check for changes a program made. Just display the file in arrival sequence and
look at the last records. You see immediately whether records are being written
correctly.
You can also use Easy View to find, edit,
and/or delete records using complex scan criteria. Easy View can scan for
values, including null values, in multiple fields using relational operators
and AND/OR logic. Easy View can replace a field value or null value with a
specific value, the value from another field, or the results of a calculation,
or it can delete the records. And, you can submit the operation to batch.
Keep your database secure
You can tailor Easy View to ensure the security of your database.
- Define global capabilities and capabilities
for specific user profiles
- Allow programmers to look for database
problems caused by program bugs without being able to change the data
- Prohibit updates to production libraries,
allowing changes to test libraries only
- Create an audit trail record of Easy View
database changes
And much more!
Easy View also makes the following tasks easy:
- Create test records containing unique data by
adding and replicating records and changing one or more fields
- Display and print a list of the DDS field
specifications for a file
- Trace database relations between physical and
logical files using the file family tree
- Tailor Easy View's defaults for specific user
profiles
