Robot/LPAR Total
iSeries Logical Partition (LPAR) Resource Management
The good news: you’ve finished partitioning
your iSeries machine and you finally have things the way you want them. Your
plan is to control your processing and allocate resources. The bad news: you
don’t have any good way to track resource usage, determine what needs
adjusting where, or to move resources quickly. The best news: Robot/LPAR, the
performance monitoring and adjustment software for partitioned (LPAR) iSeries
systems from Help/ Systems. Robot/LPAR monitors the performance of your LPAR
systems and keeps them running smoothly.
Create custom
environments to control processing
Robot/LPAR offers the unique concept of processing environments for specialised
LPAR control. You create environments by specifying different performance
factors and thresholds for each partition. For example, you could create a Day
environment for your daily processing, a Night environment for your nightly
processing, and a Weekend environment for your weekend processing. Then, you
use a simple command to activate an environment and set the resource and
processing priorities for each partition in the environment.
Assume that you’ve created one partition for
production and another for sales. When the Day environment is active, you can
give your sales partition greater access to system resources than your
production partition. When the Night environment is active, your production
partition has priority for those resources. Quite simple, but the possibilities
are endless.
Manage your LPAR system
at a glance
Robot/LPAR lets you control your iSeries LPAR system from a PC using the
Robot/LPAR Explorer, its easy-to-use PC interface. You can display, track,
graph, and report on your entire system performance. The Robot/LPAR Explorer
displays your system resources in a visual tree at whatever level of detail you
need. See the properties of your systems, your partitions—even your
devices—quickly.
Analyze LPAR performance
easily
Use Robot/LPAR for performance monitoring and adjustment. Robot/LPAR monitors
each partition, collecting performance statistics. Then, use Robot/LPAR to
display and graph these statistics to analyze and report on your system’s
performance. With this type of information at your fingertips, it’s easy to
spot problems and build a case for any system changes you need to make.
Easy setup plus security
Robot/LPAR is easy to set up, administer, and secure. Using the Robot/LPAR
Explorer you can specify threshold events and their responses, what to track,
how often to monitor partitions, and the level of security for each Robot/LPAR
user. The Robot/LPAR security levels—User, Operator, and
Administrator—determine who can activate environments, who can move
resources, and who can adjust performance or make other system changes.
Respond to potential
problems quickly
Robot/LPAR lets you define event thresholds by setting minimum and maximum
performance factors. If a partition nears a threshold, it triggers an event
that you can respond to automatically. For example, if a partition is reaching
its maximum for processor power, you can use Robot/LPAR to notify the correct
personnel to step in and fix the problem before it gets bigger. And, if
hardware resources are needed, you can use Robot/LPAR to move devices between
partitions.
Great product
integration means total resource management
Robot/LPAR works great with the other Help/Systems’ products to let you
expand your LPAR management possibilities. Use Robot/ LPAR with Robot/SCHEDULE,
the job scheduling and batch management software, to schedule and start jobs in
response to resource needs. Robot/SCHEDULE can start a job, or group of jobs,
based on a new environment, a threshold event, or in response to other system
conditions. You can even schedule environment activation.
Robot/LPAR works with Robot/AUTOTUNE,
the iSeries performance monitoring and tuning package, to tune your partition
memory management. After Robot/LPAR allocates memory to a partition, Robot/AUTOTUNE
allocates the memory within the partition to the subsystems and memory pools
that need it. Robot/LPAR and Robot/AUTOTUNE work together to guarantee that
your LPAR memory resources are working exactly where they are needed for
maximum efficiency.
Robot/LPAR uses Robot/ALERT
for fast problem notification and resolution. Robot/ALERT can send pager or
e-mail messages whenever there is a problem that needs to be acknowledged or
addressed.
Robot/LPAR works with Robot/NETWORK,
the FREE network management solution, to tie everything together. Robot/NETWORK
lets you manage and control your entire LPAR system from a single location.
