Robot/UPS
iSeries management during a power failure  New Version 3.0

With your iSeries at the heart of your organisation, a power failure can strike like a heart attack, taking down the iSeries and keeping it down for a long time. Your UPS will power it through a short power outage, but if the battery power runs out before the iSeries powers down, the result is no better than no UPS at all.

Who will power down the iSeries?
Even with a UPS, someone has to shut down the iSeries when power fails. If the iSeries is running unattended, no one is there to do it. And, even when someone is there, they often don't know what to do, or do the wrong thing.

For the safety of your system, you invest in UPS hardware. But, you also need to automate the management of power outages to be truly safe. You need Robot/UPS. Get the Robot/UPS brochure to discover how Robot/UPS can protect your system.

If lightning strikes…
Consider this: It is 1:12 a.m. The only lights in your building are the exit lights and the lights on the iSeries. The iSeries has hours of work yet to do. Then, lightning strikes and the power goes out.

Robot/UPS takes control as soon as the iSeries switches to UPS battery power. Following your schedule, it waits to see if power comes back. When it doesn't, it executes the first action in the schedule.

Robot/UPS executes each action in the shutdown schedule at the appointed time. As you specified, it sends messages, holds job queues, ends subsystems, and executes any other procedures needed. Finally, with plenty of time remaining, it does a quick power down.

At 2:25 a.m., power is restored. The iSeries IPLs, and Robot/UPS begins your restoration schedule. It releases held job queues, restarts subsystems, and does any other procedures you specified. Order the FREE Robot/UPS User Guide to learn more.

While the batteries recharge
If power fails again before the batteries are re-charged, your iSeries is still safe. Robot/UPS takes control, altering its schedule to ensure the shutdown completes before battery power runs out.

In the morning, you look at the system displays and see everything running normally. But, on the Robot/UPS history display, you see the night's events, from power failure through restoration. Robot/UPS protected your system.

Make sure every power failure has a happy ending for your iSeries. Contact Us for a FREE 30-day trial of Robot/UPS or order an information kit online. Call now, before lightning strikes.

New Version 3.0

Manage Orderly Shutdown of Partitioned iSeries and i5 Systems

Use Robot/UPS 3.0 to monitor your partitioned systems and to safely power them down
when the power fails. Robot/UPS automatically recalculates a partition’s power down time,
based on the new amount of memory, after a dynamic memory change is made. Your systems
are always protected regardless of when, and how often, memory is moved between
partitions.

Simplified Partition Management

On i5 systems, designate a Robot/UPS controlling partition during, or after, installation. You can also can select a different controlling partition at any time on i5 systems.
